Honda City 2015-2018 Model — Still Worth It in 2026? A Driver’s Honest Review
Honda City. Name suna hai? Obviously suna hoga. Pakistan mein har doosra passenger ke paas hai. Ya phir uss ne kabhi na kabhi City mein baith kar safar kiya hai.
2015 se 2018 ka model. 5th generation. Woh shape. Woh look. Woh front grille. Aaj bhi acha lagta hai. 2026 mein bhi. Purani nahi lagti.
So the question: Is it still worth buying in 2026? Yaar. Depends. Let me tell you what I have learned. From passengers. From mechanics. From sitting in traffic and watching these cars pass by.
*(Disclaimer: Bhai, main driver hoon. Car dealer nahi. Prices yeh hain based on market research from mid-2026. Used car market changes weekly. One day price up. Next day down. Condition matters more than year. Always take a mechanic. Always check documents. Meri baat man ke mat lena. Apni aankhon se dekhna.)*
So. Let’s go.

The Good. Bhai, City achi gari hai.
Pehle acha part. Why do people love City?
Engine. 1.3L i-VTEC ya 1.5L i-VTEC. Dono achi hain. Power hai. 1.5L mein 120 horsepower ke aas paas. City mein bhagao? Mazay. Highway par overtake? No issue. Corolla se zyada fun hai. I am not saying Corolla is bad. Corolla is reliable. Corolla is boring. City is… zinda.
Fuel average? Official figures keh rahay hain 14-16 km/l. But bhai, real world mein? Passengers ne bataya. 1.3L manual 12-14 km/l deti hai city mein. Highway par 16-17. 1.5L automatic? City mein 10-12 km/l. Ager aap ki foot bhaari hai toh kam. Highway par 14-15. Not great but acceptable.
One passenger told me: “Mohsin bhai, meri City 1.5L auto hai. Petrol 10-11 deti hai city mein. Lekin power itni hai ke main ignore kar deta hoon.”
Interior. Bhai, City ka interior Corolla se better hai. Dashboard design. Seats comfortable. Space bhi acha hai. Back seat mein 3 adults baith sakte hain. Thoda tight hai but okay. Corolla mein zyada space hai. But City mein feeling hai. Premium feel.
Steering wheel. Thick. Grips well. Controls pe buttons. Corolla mein boring lagta hai. City mein sporty lagta hai.
Looks. Exterior. The 5th generation City still looks modern. The headlights. The grille. The body lines. 2026 mein bhi log dekhtay hain “wah kya gari hai.” Especially black color ya grey. White is common. But clean white bhi achi lagti hai.
Resale value. Corolla jitni nahi. Lekin better than most. After Corolla, City is second best. Honda brand hai. People trust. You buy City today. Drive for 2-3 years. Sell for good price. Not as high as Corolla. But not bad.
One passenger said: “Bhai, main nay 2016 City li 35 lakh ki. 2 saal chalai. Bechi 32 lakh mein. 1.5 lakh ki cost per year. Sasta hai.”
The Bad. And bhai, issues hain. Kuch serious.
Suspension. This is the biggest complaint. Every passenger. Every review. City ki suspension is hard.
Islamabad ki roads? Bhai, City mein har speed breaker par “thud.” Har pothole par “bang.”
One passenger. He had a 2017 City. He said: “Mohsin bhai, gaari achi hai lekin kamar dard ho jati hai. Pindi ke roads pe toh giyaan nikal jata hai.”
Why? Because City has low ground clearance. And stiff suspension. Honda designed it for handling. For corners. For fun driving. Not for potholes. Not for Pakistani roads.
Ground clearance: 165 mm. Corolla has 170 mm. Wagon R has more. So City scrapes on big speed breakers. Especially with 4 passengers. Front bumper touches. Painful sound.
AC issues. Bhai. This is common.
Passenger after passenger. “AC kam hai.” “AC theek se thanda nahi karta.”
2018 model. One passenger. He bought it. 62,000 km driven. First week, AC not cooling. He went to workshop. They charged gas. Then after gas, car started jerking with AC on. Tuk tuk sound from engine bay. He was frustrated. He said “Mohsin bhai, kya karoon?”
I said: “AC evaporator issue ho sakta hai. Common hai Cities mein”.
Yes. Common issue. AC cooling coil leaks. Evaporator failure. In hot weather. Pakistan is hot. So AC works hard. Then fails.
Fix? Evaporator replacement. Dash board utarna pare ga. Labor expensive. Part bhi 15,000-25,000. Total 30,000-40,000. Painful.
Some passengers told me: “Bhai, AC fan bhi kamzor hai. Corolla mein tez hawa aati hai. City mein hawa kam hai.” That is also true. AC blower is weak. Even when working, cooling is not great in peak summer.
Steering rack noise. 2014-2017 models. Common.
Knocking sound. When you go over bumps. When you turn at low speed. Ek passenger ne bataya. Uski 2016 City. Steering mein “kharr kharr” sound. He went to mechanic. Steering rack bushings worn. Repair 25,000. He was not happy.
He said: “Bhai, 35 lakh ki gari li. Ab 25,000 steering pe lag rahay hain.”
CVT transmission issues. In earlier cars. But 2015-2018 mein bhi ho sakta hai.
If previous owner didn’t change CVT fluid on time. Or used wrong fluid. Then judder. Shudder. Hesitation on take off.
One passenger. 2017 City CVT. He said: “Bhai, gaari kich kich karti hai low speed pe. Jaise clutch pakar nahi raha.” I told him: “CVT fluid change karo. Original Honda wala. 2-3 liter. 3,000-4,000 per liter.”
He changed. Better. Not perfect. But better.
Recalls. 2018-2020 models. Fuel pump recall. Denso fuel pump. Can fail. Car stalls. Dangerous.
Check if recall work done. If not, dealer pe le jao. Free mein change kar den gay.
Ground clearance. Bhai. Phir se.
Too low. Not just for speed breakers. For steep ramps. For parking lots. For hilly areas. One passenger took his City to Nathia Gali. Bad idea. He scraped many times. Front bumper damaged. 5,000 rupees repair.
He said: “Bhai, Corolla le leta. Kya zaroorat thi City ki.”
The Ugly. What to watch out for.
Maintenance costs. Official schedule hai. Every 10,000 km or 6 months. Service cost at dealer? 15,000-25,000. At local workshop? 8,000-12,000.
Parts prices. Oil filter: 1,500-2,000. Cabin air filter: 2,000-2,500. Not cheap. Not as cheap as Mehran. But not as expensive as Civic.
Typical annual maintenance: 30,000-50,000. Depends on luck.
Common failures.
- AC evaporator: 30,000-40,000
- Steering rack: 20,000-30,000
- CVT fluid change: 6,000-8,000 (every 40,000 km)
- Suspension overhaul: 30,000-50,000
So bhai. City is not cheap to maintain. Not expensive. Middle.
What to pay in 2026 (Real prices from market).
2015 model 1.3L manual: 25-30 lakh
2016 model 1.3L auto (Prosmatec): 30-35 lakh
2017 model 1.5L Aspire auto: 35-40 lakh
2018 model 1.5L Aspire auto: 40-45 lakh
These are Karachi/Lahore prices. Islamabad mein thora zyada. Because demand zyada.
Also, prices vary by condition. Low mileage, dealer maintained, original paint? Premium.
High mileage, accident history, repainted? Discount.
What to look for when buying used City.
Test drive. Bhai, must. Drive over speed breaker. Listen for suspension noise. Steering noise.
Check AC. Turn on. Max cold. Max fan. 2 minute mein thanda ho? Good. Not? Problem.
Check CVT (if automatic). Slow take off. Feel for judder. Shudder. Hesitation. If feels weird, walk away or negotiate down.
Check service records. Oil change receipts. CVT fluid change history. If no records, assume worst.
Check recalls. VIN number le kar Honda dealer pe call. Fuel pump recall? Airbag recall? Done? Not?
Check suspension. Push down on each corner. Bounce. Should stop quickly. Bounce bounce? Shocks gone.
Check under car. Look for rust. Oil leaks. CV axle boots torn.
Common passenger complaints.
One passenger. 2018 City Aspire. He bought for 42 lakh. 6 months later, AC failed. 35,000 repair. He was angry. He said: “Mohsin bhai, nayi si gari li. Ab AC kharab.”
Another passenger. 2016 City. Steering rack noise. He ignored. Noise got worse. Then steering became loose. Dangerous. He fixed. 28,000. He said: “Bhai, pehle kyun nahi karvaya.”
Another passenger. 2017 City CVT. He loves it. He said: “Bhai, power hai. Handling hai. Corolla mein boring lagta hai. City mein maza hai.” He has spent 40,000 on maintenance in 2 years. He is okay.
How it compares to Corolla (2015-2018).
Corolla: More space. More comfortable suspension. Better AC. Higher resale. But boring. Slow. Feels like taxi.
City: Better handling. More power. Better interior design. Sporty. But harder ride. AC weaker. Lower ground clearance.
One passenger switched from Corolla to City. He said: “Bhai, Corolla mein neend aa jati thi. City mein jaag leta hoon.”
Another passenger switched from City to Corolla. He said: “Bhai, City mein kamar dard. Corolla mein sukoon.”
So. Your choice.
The Bottom Line (Driver’s Honest Take).
Bhai. Honda City 2015-2018 is a good car. Not great. Good.
If you want fun driving. If you want power. If you want looks. If you can handle hard suspension. If you can handle AC issues. If you have budget for occasional repairs. Then buy City.
If you want comfort. If you want peace of mind. If you want trouble-free ownership. If you drive daily on bad roads. Then buy Corolla.
But remember. Any used car will have issues. Especially 8-10 year old car. Rubber parts degrade. AC fails. Suspension wears. So set aside 50,000-1 lakh for repairs in first year. For any car.
One passenger. He bought 2017 City. 38 lakh. He spent 60,000 in first year on AC, steering rack, and suspension. He was sad. But after that, car has been fine. 2 years, no major issues.
So.
City is like a beautiful but demanding partner. Gives you thrills. But asks for attention. Corolla is like a boring but reliable spouse. No thrills. But no drama.
Your life. Your choice.
