Kia Sportage Used Why Half of Islamabad Drives It And Why Some Regret It
why half of Islamabad drives a Sportage. And why the other half wants to. And some, why they regret it.
I drive. I see them everywhere. F-10 parking. I-8 Markaz. Srinagar Highway at 8 AM. Convoy. White ones. Black ones. Grey. This car is everywhere. You cannot escape it.
So what is the deal? Is it really a luxury car for middle-class money? Or is it a beautiful trap that drinks petrol and eats your wallet?
I asked passengers. I talked to mechanics. I looked at real prices. Here is the truth. Messy. Real. Unpolished. Like me.
(Disclaimer: Bhai, main driver hoon. Car dealer nahi. Ye stories hain passengers ki. Ye prices hain market ke. 2026 ki baat. Change hoti rehti hai. Apni research karo. Mechanic le kar jao. Aur apne wallet ka size dekho.)

Why Everyone Buys It. The Good Part.
First. Look at it. Bhai, gaari achi dikhti hai. Simple. Sportage has presence. Road pe jaaye toh log dekhte hain. You feel like a king. Or queen. It has that “tiger nose” grille. Aggressive. Modern. Not like Corolla which looks like… Corolla .
Second. Features. Panoramic sunroof. Huge screen. Rear AC vents. Cruise control. Push start. Smart entry. In higher variants, you get AWD. Black Edition looks mean . You sit inside, it feels expensive. Because it is expensive.
Third. Comfort. Suspension is soft. Passengers say, “bhai, sleeping aati hai is mein.” Rough roads par bhi gaari stable hai. One passenger drove from Islamabad to Lahore. He said: “Bhai, main ne 4 ghante lagatar chalai. Back pain nahi hua.” In a Corolla, he said pain hota hai. So Sportage is comfortable for long drives .
Fourth. Resale Value. Bhai, this is the biggest reason. Kia Sportage sells. Everyone wants it. So when you go to sell, you will find a buyer. Maybe not as high as Toyota. But better than Chinese brands . One passenger said: “Bhai, main nay 2 saal chalai. Bechi toh sirf 5-6 lakh ka loss hua. Itna to nayi gaari mein bhi hota hai.” So.
And the market agrees. Used Sportage prices in 2026 range from 55 lakh to 82 lakh depending on year and variant . A 2020-2022 model is still in high demand. White and Black sell fastest .
One passenger showed me his 2022 Sportage AWD. 66,000 km. He wanted 66 lakh . He said: “Bhai, 10 baar log aye dekhne.” This is not a car. This is an asset.
The Bad. Fuel Average. Bhai, Petrol Pi Jaati Hai.
Now the reality. The part that hurts. Sportage mein fuel average is trash. I am not being polite. It is trash.
Search results confirm. 2.0L engine gives 10 to 12 km/l on average . But real world? Passengers tell me different.
One passenger said: “Bhai, meri Sportage 9 deti hai city mein. 11 highway. Uncle driving. Still 9.”
Another passenger: “Main ne AWD li. 8.5 deti hai. Pachtaya.”
Another forum user said flat out: “Fuel average is trash. 8-9 local with very calm uncle type driving. Highway pe thora better” .
Why so low? Because engine is 2.0L naturally aspirated. 155 horsepower. 196 Nm torque . It is a heavy car. So it drinks.
If you drive carefully? Maybe 10-11. If you drive like me? 9. If you have AWD? 8.5.
So bhai. Agar aap fuel average dekhte ho, Sportage nahi hai aap ke liye. Alto lo. Yaris lo. Even Corolla is better. 13-15.
But agar aap chahte ho ke log dekhein, phir fuel average matter nahi karta. Aap petrol bharo aur muskurao.
The Pain. Maintenance Costs. Genuine Parts Are Expensive.
Yeh wala part hai jo log bhool jatay hain. Showroom mein jaate hain. Gaari achi lagti hai. Loan le lete hain. Phir service ka time aata hai. “Sir, 35,000 rupees.”
Search results se mila. Dealer service for oil and filter change is about 35,000 rupees . For a simple oil change. In a Corolla, 8,000-12,000. In a Sportage? Three times.
One passenger said: “Bhai, 5,000 km pe service 35,000. Every 3 months. 1 saal mein 1.4 lakh sirf service mein.”
Why so expensive? Because dealership forces you to come. If you skip, warranty void . And with Kia, you need warranty. Because things break.
One owner wrote: “They charged around 11,000+ for oil change & filter job” a few years ago . Now it’s 35,000. Inflation hai bhai.
But there is hope. Local workshops do the same job for 20,000-25,000 . But risk hai. Agar warranty claim karna para, problem.
And genuine parts? Bhai, headlight ka price. 200,000 rupees. Yes. Two lakh. For a headlight . If you break it, you cry.
Another passenger told me: “Bhai, meri parking sensor kharab ho gayi. Dealer ne bola 25,000. Main nay local se 8,000 mein karwa liya.”
So. Sportage maintenance is not for the weak wallet. Or the impatient. Or the unlucky.
The Horror Stories. Warranty Rejection. Wheel Paint Issues.
I found a forum post. Owner complained about wheel paint peeling. Car was new. He called Kia. They refused. Said “environmental reasons” .
He said: “Honestly, I’ve lost a lot of respect for Kia as a whole after this experience.”
Another passenger told me: “Bhai, meri AC compressor ne awaz karna shuru kar di. 30,000 km pe. Dealer ne check kiya, bola ‘normal hai.’ Normal nahi tha. Phir 40,000 km pe band ho gaya. Warranty? Expire.”
So. Kia’s warranty is not a guarantee. It’s a hope. Some get covered. Some don’t.
And dealers? Some are good. Some are looters. One owner wrote: “They don’t allow owners to use oil other than stocked at dealerships” . So you are forced to buy their expensive oil.
The Regret. Why People Sell.
I asked passengers. Why are you selling? Only 2 years?
Passenger 1: “Bhai, fuel average 8 hai. Mera budget nahi banta. Har mahine 30-40,000 petrol mein chale jatay hain.”
Passenger 2: “Service ka jhanjhat. Har 3 mahine dealer ke paas jao. 30-40,000 do. Wapas aao. Phir koi aur chhez kharab. Thak gaya.”
Passenger 3: “Main nay socha tha luxury car le kar baith jaunga. Lekin luxury car mein luxury kharcha bhi hota hai. Nahi ho raha.”
Passenger 4 (sold after 1.5 years): “Gaari achi hai. Lekin parts expensive hain. Aur resale utni nahi jitni sochi thi. Corolla le leta.”
But bhai, for every seller, there is a buyer. Because the car looks good. And the buyer thinks: “Mere saath aisa nahi hoga.”
The Verdict. Who Should Buy.
Bhai, Sportage is a lifestyle car. Not an economy car.
You buy Sportage if:
- You have money for fuel (30-40,000 per month minimum)
- You have money for service (1-1.5 lakh per year)
- You have patience for dealer visits
- You care about looks and comfort more than savings
- You will sell after 2-3 years (before major issues)
- You can afford a headlight replacement (2 lakh if unlucky)
You do NOT buy Sportage if:
- Your monthly income is less than 2-3 lakh
- You drive more than 2,000 km per month
- You are worried about fuel average
- You plan to keep car for 5+ years
- You want peace of mind and low maintenance
One passenger summed it up. He sold his Sportage after 2 years. Bought a Corolla. He said: “Bhai, Corolla boring hai. Lekin mujhe sukoon chahiye tha. Sportage mein sukoon nahi tha.”
Another passenger kept his Sportage. 4 years. He said: “Bhai, main nay is gaari mein 8 lakh lagaye hain maintenance aur fuel mein. Lekin jab main gaari chalaata hoon, log dekhte hain. Woh feeling alag hai.”
So. Your choice.
Bookmark this page. Jab Sportage lene ka man kare, yaad rakhna. Fuel average 9. Service 35,000. Headlight 2 lakh. Warranty rejection possible. Phir faisla karna.
