I Tried Finding Gyms Under 1,000 PKR in Islamabad — Here’s What Actually Exists
By Mohsin Farooq
April 26, 2026
(Look, bhai. Main driver hoon. Not a fitness trainer. Not a gym owner. These prices are from passengers, from my own chakkar, from February to April 2026. Prices change. Owners change. Some gyms close overnight. So this is just… a guide. Not a contract. Don’t come to me if a treadmill breaks. Use your brain.)
So.
I got this idea from a passenger. Skinny guy. College maybe. He sits in my car, F-10 to G-9. Sweating already, and not from heat.
I ask: “Gym kar rahe ho?”
He says: “Try kar raha hoon, bhai. But fees bohot zyada hain. 2,000, 3,000. Where can I find under 1,000?”
I said: “Under 1,000? Yaar, kya milega is mein?”
He said: “Bas kuch bhi. Thoda dumbbell. Thoda bench.”
I thought. So I started asking. Other passengers. A few gym guys I drop. Even a zumba instructor once. Here is what I found. Messy. Not complete. But real.
First Thing: Under 1,000 Gyms Exist. Barely.
You want a gym. Monthly membership. Under 1,000 rupees. In Islamabad. You search on Google, you see fancy gyms. 3,000. 5,000. CrossFit. Spinning. Personal training.
But.
Hidden ones? They don’t advertise. They are in basements. Behind chaaye shops. In old sectors. Word of mouth.
One passenger told me: “Bhai, Google pe sirf expensive wale hain. You have to walk and ask.”
So I walked. Well, I drove, then walked. For you. Because you asked.
The List (Messy and Incomplete)
Here are some gyms under or near 1,000 PKR that actually exist. Some I saw. Some passengers told me.
1. Iron Corner Gym, G-9 Markaz (basement near Askari Bank)
A passenger took me here. He said: “Bhai, 800 rupay. Monthly. Open gym time. Morning 6-10, evening 4-9. No AC. Fans hain. Dumbbells rusty. But. There’s bench press. Squat rack. Pull-up bar. If you just want to lift and leave? Works.”
I went in. Smell of sweat and iron. Good vibe. Old bodybuilders grunting. No music. Owner sitting on plastic chair. He said: “800 for students. 1,000 for working. If you pay 3 months together, 700 per month.” Asked about timing. He said: “Kabhi bhi aao. But lights band after 9. Load shedding.”
So. 800. Real. No contract. No card. Pay cash.
2. Desi Akhara, I-10/1 (behind the Sunday Bazaar wall)
This is not gym. This is akhara. For wrestlers, mostly. But you can go. Passenger told me: “Bhai, 500 rupees monthly. They have mud pit if you want. But also a small side room with dumbbells, barbells made of cement plates. It’s old school.”
I went. There was a man doing 100 push-ups. Kids watching. The “dumbbells” were concrete blocks on iron rods. Some weights broken. But free air. Under tin shed. They also teach kabbadi? I don’t know. But 500 rupees. If you just want resistance and bodyweight, can’t beat it. But no treadmill. No mirrors. No shower. No drinking water. Bawal but works.
3. Al-Fatah Gym, G-8/2 (near street 44)
This one hidden. A passenger said: “My cousin goes. 900 per month. Basement. Low ceiling. Equipment old but working. Dumbbells to 40 kg. Barbell. Bench. Two treadmills, one usually broke. No AC only exhaust. But he said it’s enough.” I didn’t go inside—just dropped someone. But sign said “Fitness Center” faded.
4. Some small places in G-10, F-11, I-8
In G-10, there’s a garage turned gym, near the mosque. 700. Very basic. In F-11, one guy runs it out of his house basement, for like 1,000. He has a few machines, you have to call ahead. No name, just mobile number one passenger gave. I lost it. Sorry, yaar. In I-8, near the fruit market, there is a gym in a plaza basement. 1,000. Has AC one hour only. You pay that 1000, they still ask you to bring own towel.
So. Things exist. But.
The 1,000 PKR Gym Reality: What You Don’t Get
Air conditioning? Bhool jao. Fans, if you’re lucky. Some have tin roof, so summer mein oven. Winter mein freezer.
Cleanliness? Mop once a day maybe. Smell of stale sweat permanent. No laundry for towels. No soap in bathroom. You bring everything.
Equipment? Broken treadmills, missing dumbbell handles. You adapt. You make jugaar. One guy I saw using a broomstick for barbell. I asked. He said “shoulder rehab.”
Trainer? Free advice from other gym bros. May be wrong. May cause injury. But they will definitely tell you “protein lo.” No certified trainer.
Timings? Some gym owner arrives late. Locks door early if no one comes. So unpredictable.

What Passengers Told Me (Secret Gym Tips)
Passenger 1: “Bhai, 1,000 mein full gym nahi milega. But you can make combo. Do bodyweight in park. Use gym only 2 days for heavy stuff. Keep cost under 500 overall.”
Passenger 2: “There’s a free outdoor gym in F-9 Park. Pull-up bars, parallel bars, situp benches. Jab bhi jao, use karo. Zero rupees.” I saw it. Nice. But winter morning mein fog. Summer mein mosquitoes at night. Still, free.
Passenger 3: “Some university gyms open for outsiders if you know someone. Bahria University is 1,500 but if friend takes, guest fee 200 per visit. So once a week might fit 1,000 monthly.” I don’t know if legal. But happens.
Passenger 4 (a girl): “Ladies gym under 1,000 impossible. Most are 2,000+. But some aerobics classes in community centers, like G-6, charge 800 for 12 sessions. Twice a week. So that fits.” I haven’t checked. She said it’s in a girls college basement.
My Own Try (Briefly)
I went to Iron Corner. Paid 800 for one month. Did bench. Did dumbbell rows. Fan stopped working after 30 minutes. Owner said “bijli chali gayi.” It was load shedding. So I sat in dark. Some guy still lifting.
After 45 minutes, I left. Smelled like iron and onion. But I felt good. I mean, 800 rupay mein exercise ho gayi. But I won’t go in July.
Where to Find These Gyms?
Don’t search Google for “gym under 1000 Islamabad.” You’ll get scammed or misled. Instead:
- Walk in old sectors: G-7, G-8, G-9, I-8, I-10. Look for signs “Fitness Center” faded. Basement.
- Ask chaaye wala, barber, or paan shop. They know.
- Ask young guys on street with backpack and bad posture. “Bhai gym around yahan sasta?” They know.
- Facebook groups? “Islamabad Freelancers” maybe someone posts about cheap gym. I saw once. They said G-11 markaz basement.
Prices I Collected (Quick Messy Matrix)
- Iron Corner (G-9): 800/month students, 1000 others. 3 months 2100.
- Akhara (I-10): 500/month, kasrat section 300 if only mud stuff.
- Al-Fatah (G-8): 900/month, 1500 for 2 months.
- Garage gym G-10: 700/month, 1200 for 2 months.
- House gym F-11: 1000 exact, no discount.
- I-8 basement near fruit market: 1000, but includes one hour AC (evening only).
- F-9 Park outdoor gym: free. 24/7 but no lights at night.
Hidden Problems (Because There Always Are)
- Load shedding: many cheap gyms no generator. Dark, no fan. So go early morning.
- Equipment breaking: No quick repair. Dumbbell may be missing for weeks.
- The people: Some are helpful, some are show-off. “Kitna leg press?” you do your thing.
- Shower? Mostly no. You go home sweaty. Your car seat suffers. My car seat suffered that day.
- Deposit? Some ask 100 rupees for key to locker if exists. I just carry bag.
One Weird Story
So I went to Iron Corner on a Tuesday. Only me and a very old uncle. Uncle was benching just the bar. With perfect form. Then he got up, looked at me, and said: “Beta, form pe focus karo, weight baad mein.” Then he left. That was worth 800 rupees alone. Free advice.
But phir next day, same uncle was doing something else. He was selling phone chargers outside. I laughed. Only in Pindi/Islamabad.
FAQ (From Passengers)
Q: Can a girl find gym under 1000?
A: Very hard. Most ladies gym 2000+. Possibly community centers with female timings, but I don’t have direct info. Ask around. Or get resistance band and do home.
Q: Are these gyms safe for equipment?
A: Safe enough. Check bench before use. Old benches might collapse if you’re heavy. One passenger said his friend’s bench broke, he fell. Minor injury. So do a test shake.
Q: Do you need ID?
A: No. Cash. That’s all. If they ask ID, maybe just for name. Not common.
Q: Can I bring a guest?
A: Usually not included. Some allow if no one there for small fee 100 rs. But ask.
Q: Can I pay per day?
A: Some allow. 50-100 per day. If you only go 8 times a month, cheaper than monthly.
What I Think (Just My Opinion)
Yaar.
Gym under 1,000 possible in Islamabad but you give up comfort. A lot. It’s basically a shed with heavy things. But if you already have low budget and just want to lift something, not make Instagram reels, it works. I think. Also, free park gyms good addition. And bodyweight at home. But I know, sometimes you need iron. For the mind maybe.
I spent 800 for one month. Didn’t go after week 2 because my back hurt, not from gym, from driving whole day. Phir I gave up. But I saw the possibilities.
So.
Bookmark this. If you find another under-1000 gym, tell me. I’ll add. We drivers and passengers help each other. And always check bench before you lift. Bol diya.
