First Car in Pakistan Under 15 Lakh? Here Are 5 Options That Won’t Break Down (Probably)

First car. 15 lakh. That is not a small amount. For some people, it’s everything. Savings. Loan from parents. Selling the old motorcycle. I know. I have driven first time buyers. They sit in my car. Nervous. Excited. “Mohsin bhai, konsi gari loon?”

So here it is. 5 options. Under 15 lakh. That probably won’t break down. I say probably because bhai, used car hai. Kuch bhi ho sakta hai. But these are the ones I see on the road. Every day. Passengers tell me. Mechanics tell me. Parts are everywhere. So.

*(Disclaimer: Bhai, main driver hoon. Car dealer nahi. Prices yeh hain based on what passengers told me and what I see on PakWheels. March-April 2026 ki baat hai. Prices change. Cars age. Condition matters. Get a mechanic to check before you buy. Meri baat man ke mat le lena. Apni aankhon se dekhna.)*

Option 1: Suzuki Mehran (2013-2016 model).

Yaar. Mehran. The cockroach of Pakistani roads. You cannot kill it. It will not die. I have seen Mehran with 200,000 km. Still running. Still making that noise.

Price now? 2015 model. 10-13 lakh. 2016 model? 13-15 lakh. Depends on condition. AC? Maybe works. Maybe not. Power steering? Nahi. You will develop arm muscles.

One passenger told me: “Bhai, main ne Mehran li thi 12 lakh ki. 2 saal chalai. Parts? 500-1000 rupees. Oil change? 2,500. Kuch nahi hota.”

But bhai. Mehran is not comfortable. Suspension is hard. You feel every pothole. Islamabad ki roads? You will feel every stone. AC? Weak. In June, you will sweat. But it will start. Every morning. No matter what.

Real repair costs:

  • Oil change: 2,500-3,000
  • Tyre: 4,000-5,000
  • AC gas refill: 600-1,000
  • Clutch plate: 5,000-7,000

Problem: Mehran production stopped. So resale value? Still high. Because people want. But parts? Still available. Every workshop can fix.

Verdict: Buy if you want cheap, reliable, no frills. Don’t buy if you want comfort, AC, or safety (no airbags).

Option 2: Suzuki Cultus (2013-2015 model).

Ah. Cultus. The upgrade from Mehran. Power steering. Better AC. More space. Still economical.

Price: 2014 model. 13-15 lakh. Depending on condition. VXR model is better. Has power windows, AC, power steering.

One passenger. Old guy. He had Cultus for 8 years. He said: “Bhai, mehran se upar hai. But parts thore mehngay hain Mehran se.”

He was right.

Real repair costs:

  • Oil change: 3,000-3,500
  • Tyre: 5,000-6,000
  • AC gas: 600-1,000
  • Clutch plate: 7,000-9,000
  • Brake pads: 1,500-2,500

Problem: Cultus ki shape. Some people hate. Some love. Also, fuel average? 13-15 km/l. Mehran se kam.

But bhai. Cultus is more comfortable for long drives. Islamabad to Lahore? Mehran mein back pain. Cultus mein okay.

Verdict: Buy if you want step up from Mehran. Don’t buy if you want modern looks or very high fuel average.

Option 3: Suzuki Alto (2010-2013 model / Japanese import).

Alto is interesting. Pakistani version? 2012 model. 10-12 lakh. Japanese import? 2010-2012. 12-14 lakh.

But difference. Japanese Alto has better AC. Better engine. More features. But parts? More expensive.

One passenger. He bought Japanese Alto. 13 lakh. He said: “Bhai, gaari chalti hai mast. AC baraf. Lekin parts dhoondne padte hain.”

Real repair costs (Pakistani Alto):

  • Oil change: 2,500-3,000
  • Tyre: 4,000-5,000
  • AC gas: 600-1,000

(Japanese Alto):

  • Oil change: 3,500-4,000
  • Tyre: 5,000-6,000
  • AC compressor: 12,000-15,000 (if fails)

Problem: Japanese Alto ka dashboard. Center pe speedometer hai. Some people hate. Also, ground clearance kam hai. Islamabad speed breakers? Scrape ho jati hai.

Verdict: Buy Pakistani Alto for cheap parts. Buy Japanese for better AC and features. But be ready for higher maintenance.

Option 4: Suzuki Wagon R (2008-2011 model).

Wagon R. The tall boy. Why tall? Because you sit upright. Like a bus. But space inside? Bhai, itna space. More than Corolla. I am not joking.

One passenger. He was 6 feet. He sat in my car. He said: “Bhai, meri gari Wagon R hai. Sir nahi lagta. Leg space hai. Family ke liye best.”

Price: 2010 model. 12-14 lakh. 2011 model? 14-15 lakh. Depends.

Real repair costs:

  • Oil change: 3,000-3,500
  • Tyre: 5,000-6,000
  • Suspension: 8,000-12,000 for set
  • AC gas: 600-1,000

Problem: Wagon R is old now. 2010 model is 16 years old. Rubber parts degrade. Suspension needs work. AC might be weak. So get it checked properly.

But parts? Available. Every workshop knows Wagon R.

Verdict: Buy if you need space. Family. Tall people. Don’t buy if you want modern looks or very low maintenance.

Option 5: Daihatsu Mira (2011-2014 Japanese import).

Ah. The Japanese kei car. Mira. Small. Cute. Efficient.

Price: 2012 model. 11-13 lakh. 2014 model? 14-16 lakh (touching budget).

One passenger. He bought Mira. 12 lakh. He said: “Bhai, petrol 20-22 km/l deti hai. AC acha hai. Lekin parts? Online mangwane padte hain.”

Real repair costs:

  • Oil change: 3,500-4,000
  • Tyre: 6,000-7,000 (special size)
  • AC gas: 600-1,000
  • Brake pads: 2,500-3,500

Problem: Parts. Not everywhere. In Rawalpindi, maybe. In small cities? No. So if you live in Islamabad, fine. If you travel to remote areas, problem.

Also, resale value? Not as high as Mehran or Cultus. People are scared of Japanese parts.

Verdict: Buy if you want fuel average and modern features. Don’t buy if you want easy parts availability or high resale.

What NOT to Buy Under 15 Lakh (My Opinion).

Bhai. Some cars look tempting. But no.

Honda Civic 2005-2006 model. Yes, looks good. But parts? Expensive. Fuel average? Low. One passenger bought Civic 2006 for 14 lakh. He sold after 6 months. He said: “Bhai, 8 km/l deti hai. Parts 15,000-20,000. Nahi ho raha.”

Toyota Corolla 2004-2007 model. Same problem. Old. Parts expensive. Fuel average low. One passenger still has it. He spends 30,000 per month on maintenance. He regrets. But he cannot sell because resale low.

Imported 660cc cars (Mira, Move, etc.) with high mileage. Avoid. Above 100,000 km? Problems start. AC compressor. Suspension. Engine issues. Passenger told me: “Bhai, 80,000 km ki Mira li. Ab 120,000 km pe hai. Har month 5,000-10,000 lag rahay hain.”

How to Buy (Tips from a Driver).

Tip 1: Take a mechanic. Pay him 1,000-2,000 for one day. He will check engine, suspension, AC, everything. Worth every rupee.

Tip 2: Check documents. Registration, tax, fitness certificate. If missing, price should be lower.

Tip 3: Test drive. On bad road. On speed breaker. Listen for noise. Suspension noise? AC noise? Engine noise? Walk away if too many.

Tip 4: Check resale value. Ask yourself: after 2 years, can I sell? Mehran? Yes. Mira? Maybe not.

Tip 5: Calculate total cost. Not just buying price. Insurance (5,000-10,000 per year). Maintenance (10,000-20,000 per year). Petrol (15,000-30,000 per month). Add everything.

Example: Mehran. Buying 12 lakh. Petrol 15,000 per month. Maintenance 15,000 per year. Total first year: 12 lakh + 1.8 lakh petrol + 15,000 maintenance = 13.95 lakh. Almost 14 lakh.

Example: Mira. Buying 13 lakh. Petrol 8,000 per month (more efficient). Maintenance 20,000 per year (parts expensive). Total first year: 13 lakh + 96,000 petrol + 20,000 maintenance = 14.16 lakh. Similar.

So. Not just buying price. Running cost matters.

What Passengers Said.

Passenger 1 (Mehran owner): “Bhai, gaari purani hai. Lekin dil hai. Chal pari to kaam kar deti hai. Kabhi kabhi AC band ho jati hai. Lekin chalti hai.”

Passenger 2 (Cultus owner): “Mehran se upgrade kiya. Ab AC hai. Power steering hai. Family khush hai.”

Passenger 3 (Wagon R owner): “Mera beta 6 feet hai. Wagon R mein baithta hai aaram se. Corolla mein sar lagti hai. Gaari purani hai lekin kaam karti hai.”

Passenger 4 (Mira owner): “Petrol bachat hai. 22 km/l. Lekin parts ka dar rehta hai. Main city mein rehta hoon. Theek hai.”

The Bottom Line (Driver’s Honest Take).

Bhai. 15 lakh mein perfect car nahi hai. Compromises karna parega.

If you want cheap maintenance and easy resale: Mehran.

If you want comfort and still easy maintenance: Cultus.

If you want space and family: Wagon R.

If you want fuel average and modern: Mira.

If you want to look cool? Save more money. Come back at 25 lakh.

And always. Always. Take mechanic. Test drive. Check documents. Don’t rush.

Buying car is like marriage. You will live with it. So choose wisely.
