Car Suspension Problems? I Compared Prices at 4 Shops in Islamabad and Found One Half the Price

You know the sound. You hit a pothole on Srinagar Highway. Or that broken patch near Faizabad. And suddenly your car goes “thud thud” over every little bump. Or “kharr kharr” when you turn. Or the car feels like a boat. Wobbling. Unstable.

That is suspension. And suspension problems in Islamabad? Bhi, inevitable hai.

I drive here every day. 8-10 hours. Sometimes more. I know which roads are bad. But you know what? All roads are bad. Potholes everywhere. Speed breakers that feel like mountains. Stop-go traffic that punishes your car every single day .

So one day, my car started making noise. Front left side. Every time I went over a bump. “Thud. Thud. Thud.” Like something was loose. I ignored for a week. Then it got worse.

I decided. I need to fix.

But bhai. I am a driver. I don’t have unlimited money. So I did what I always do. I shopped around. I visited 4 workshops in Islamabad. Compared prices. And what I found? Same repair. Half the price. Seriously.

(Disclaimer: Bhai, main driver hoon. Mechanic nahi. Jo main ne pay kiya, woh March 2026 mein tha. Prices change. Parts prices change. FBR ne import values revise kar di hain . Toh yeh guide hai. Exact quote nahi. Always get written estimate before work starts. Aur haan, yeh meri gari ke liye tha. Tumhari gari alag ho sakti hai.)

The Suspension Problem (What Was Wrong)

Before I tell you prices, let me tell you what was wrong. Front left side. Noise over bumps. I went to first mechanic. He lifted the car. Checked.

He said: “Control arm. Loose ho gayi hai. Bushings worn.”

I asked: “Kitna?”

He said: “Control arm 4,500. Labor 1,500. Total 6,000.”

I said: “Bhai, itna?”

He shrugged. “Quality part hai.”

I said: “Okay. I will think.”

Then I went to four different shops. Here is what happened.

Btw, suspension problems are common. Like very common. In Pakistan, rough roads, stop-go traffic, sudden braking, speed breakers—all of it destroys your suspension . Brake work, suspension jobs, basic mechanical repairs, they stay in demand year-round . So I am not alone. Everyone goes through this.

Also, control arms—ye woh part hai jo wheels ko car ke body se connect karta hai . Agar ye kharab ho jaye, toh gaadi stable nahi rehti. Steering dheela ho jata hai. Tyres uneven wear hotay hain .

So important hai. Ignore nahi karna.

Shop 1: Nazir Automobiles (I-9) — The “Premium” Option

Pehle main gaya I-9 mein. Nazir Automobiles. Famous hai. Luxury cars ke liye known hai. Mercedes, BMW, Japanese cars . So I thought, maybe they are good.

The workshop is big. Professional. Staff in uniform . I told the guy my problem. He said: “Control arm. Bushings worn. Need replacement.”

I asked: “Kitna?”

He went inside. Came back with paper. Quote:

  • Control arm (new, aftermarket): 5,500 PKR
  • Labor: 1,800 PKR
  • Alignment: 1,500 PKR
  • Total: 8,800 PKR

I almost choked. 8,800 for control arm?

One review online says: “Expert services but expensive” . Another review: “Pathetic place they dont tell you the rates and give you a whopping bill at the end” . Hmm.

But some reviews are positive. “One of the first and still the best shop to get your Japanese car fixed” . And “Been using them for 10 years and no complaints” .

So maybe good. But bhai. 8,800 is too much for me.

Other problem: They gave inexperienced workers to one customer. Review says: “They assigned inexperienced 18 year olds replacing critical parts like steering wheel” . And: “I paid 170k, wasted my precious time and the suspension is making all the same knocking noises as prior” . For a Lexus. 170,000 rupees. Wasted.

So yaar. Nazir Automobiles. Professional. But expensive. And quality? Hit or miss.

Verdict: Not for budget. Maybe for luxury cars. Not for me.

Shop 1 Price: 8,800 PKR

Shop 2: Local Workshop in I-8 Markaz (Behind Main Market)

Second shop. I-8 mein. Behind main market. Near car accessories shops. You know the area? Small workshops. Mechanics sitting on floor. Wrenches everywhere.

I went to a guy. Older. Grey beard. He had a shop name but I forgot. He lifted my car. Checked. Same diagnosis. Control arm.

I asked: “Kitna part?”

He said: “Control arm 3,800. Aftermarket. New.”

I asked: “Quality?”

He said: “Theek hai. Company se aata hai. Warranty 1 month.”

Labor: 800 PKR
Alignment: 1,200 PKR (external shop, he doesn’t do)
Total: 5,800 PKR

Better than 8,800. But still. 5,800.

I asked: “Used part hai?”

He said: “Used? 2,000-2,500. But no guarantee.”

I thought. Used control arm? Suspension? Safety hai. Maybe not worth.

Also, he said: “Bhai, agar control arm change kar rahe ho, toh ball joint bhi check karna. Often dono saath kharab hotay hain” .

I said: “Ball joint kitna?”

He said: “Ball joint 1,500 new. Labor 500 extra.”

So total with ball joint: 5,800 + 1,500 + 500 = 7,800 PKR.

Yaar. Still high.

Verdict: Cheaper than Nazir. But still expensive for me.

Shop 2 Price: 5,800 PKR (control arm only)

Shop 3: General Workshop in G-10 Markaz (Near Fruit Market)

Third shop. G-10 mein. Near fruit market. Small shop. Electrician also. His name was Waseem. He had a sign: “Auto Electrician & General Workshop.”

I told him my problem. He lifted the car. Checked.

He said: “Control arm loose. But only bushings worn. Arm is fine.”

I said: “Bushing change ho sakti hai?”

He said: “Haan. But bushing alone? 800 rupees for set. Labor 500. Total 1,300.”

But bhai. Problem is: bushings change karna mushkil hai. You need press. Not all shops have.

He had press. So he could do.

But he warned: “Sometimes old bushing nikalte waqt arm damage ho jata hai. Then you need new arm anyway.”

So risk hai.

New control arm price from him: 3,500 PKR (aftermarket)
Labor: 700 PKR
Alignment: 1,200 PKR (external)
Total: 5,400 PKR

Slightly cheaper than I-8 guy. But same range.

I asked about used parts. He said: “Used control arm? 1,800-2,200. Chalay ga. But no guarantee.”

I thought. Still thinking.

Verdict: Cheaper. But not half price.

Shop 3 Price: 5,400 PKR (control arm only)

Shop 4: Babu Mohalla Parts Shop + Local Mechanic in Saddar — The Half Price Option

This one. Yaar. This one saved me.

A passenger told me. He said: “Mohsin bhai, parts khud lo. Workshop se mat lo. Workshop markup 20-30% hota hai.”

He gave me address. Babu Mohalla. Near Rajah Bazaar, Saddar. Auto parts market.

So I went.

I walked into a shop. Sultan Auto Stores. 337-338 Babu Bazar. Older guy. Grey beard. Glasses.

I said: “Bhai, control arm chahiye. Toyota Corolla 2008. 1.3 liter.”

He went inside. Came back.

He said: “Naya aftermarket. 2,800 ka.”

I said: “2,800? Genuine?”

He said: “Branded aftermarket. Not OEM. Lekin acha hai. 1 month warranty.”

I inspected it. Welds clean. Bushings tight. Looked good.

He also had used control arm. 1,500. But bushings cracked. Not worth.

I bought the new aftermarket. 2,800 PKR.

Then I went to a mechanic near Babu Mohalla. Small shop. Older guy. He said: “Labor 600 rupees. Alignment 800 rupees.”

I asked: “Ball joint bhi check karo.”

He checked. Said: “Ball joint fine. No need change.”

Total cost:

  • Control arm (parts): 2,800
  • Labor: 600
  • Alignment: 800
  • Grand total: 4,200 PKR

Bhai. 4,200. Shop 1 quoted 8,800. Same part. Same job. Less than half.

I sat in my car. Did the math again. 8,800 – 4,200 = 4,600 saved.

4,600 rupees. That is petrol for 2 weeks. That is dinner for family for 5 days.

I got it done. The mechanic took 1 hour. Car drives smooth now. No noise. No wobble.

Alhamdulillah.

Verdict: This is the way. Buy parts yourself. Pay only labor.

Shop 4 Price (DIY parts + labor): 4,200 PKR

What I Learned (The Hard Way)

1. Workshop markup is real. Same part. 2,800 from parts shop. 3,500-5,500 from workshops. They add 20-30% easily. Sometimes 50% .

2. Labor is separate. Don’t let them combine. Ask: “Kitna part ka? Kitna labor ka?” Get written estimate.

3. Alignment is necessary after suspension work. Not optional. If you don’t align, your tires will wear uneven. Then new tires earlier. More cost later.

4. Used parts can save money but risky. For control arms, suspension, brakes? Buy new. For mirrors, bumpers, lights? Used okay .

5. Not all workshops are equal. Nazir Automobiles has good reputation but expensive . Some customers love. Some complain about inexperienced mechanics and high bills . So yaar. Choose wisely.

General Suspension Repair Costs (What Passengers Paid)

From passengers, what I heard:

PartNew Part (PKR)Labor (PKR)
Control arm (each)2,500-5,500500-1,500
Shock absorber (each)4,000-8,000800-1,500
Ball joint (each)1,000-2,500400-800
Strut mount1,500-3,000500-1,000
Sway bar link800-1,500300-500

International prices are higher. In US, control arm replacement can cost $200-800 for one arm . Here? 4,200-8,800 PKR. Not cheap. But cheaper than US? Maybe.

But bhai. 4,200 is still a lot. So save money. Buy parts yourself.

Tips for Suspension Repair (From a Driver)

Tip 1: Get multiple quotes. I went to 4 shops. Prices varied from 4,200 to 8,800. Same job. Same city. So ask around.

Tip 2: Buy parts from Babu Mohalla or Gawal Mandi. Rawalpindi has cheaper parts than Islamabad. If you can drive there, go. Worth the trip.

Tip 3: Check ball joints and bushings at same time. Often all wear together . One passenger replaced control arm. 2 months later, ball joint failed. Paid labor again. Wasted money.

Tip 4: Don’t ignore suspension noise. It gets worse. One passenger ignored. Then control arm broke on Expressway. Towed to workshop. Emergency repair 25,000 PKR. If he fixed early? 6,000-8,000. So.

Tip 5: Ask about warranty. Some shops give 1 month on parts. Some 3 months. Ask before. If no warranty, price should be lower.

Tip 6: Alignment is necessary. After suspension work, always do alignment. 800-1,500 PKR. Small price. Saves tires.

What About Air Suspension? (For Luxury Cars)

If you have a luxury car with air suspension, bhai, different game. Air suspension parts cost 2002,000each[citation:5].Laboralso200−2,000each[citation:5].Laboralso200-500 . In Pakistan, you are looking at 50,000-200,000 PKR easily.

One passenger had a Lexus. Air suspension failed. Repair cost 170,000 rupees. Workshop couldn’t even fix properly . So.

If you have air suspension, go to specialist. Not local workshop. Prepare wallet.

The Bottom Line (Driver’s Honest Take)

Bhai.

Suspension problems common. Islamabad ki roads are not kind. Potholes. Speed breakers. Stop-go traffic. Your car takes beating daily .

But don’t let workshops overcharge.

Buy parts yourself. Go to Babu Mohalla, Saddar. Or Gawal Mandi, Rawalpindi.

Pay labor separately. Get alignment after.

If workshop quotes 8,800 like Nazir? Walk away. Find another.

If you are not sure, take mechanic friend. Or ask passenger who knows cars.

And always. Always. Get written estimate before work.

Bookmark this page. Jab suspension mein noise aaye, yaad rakhna. Parts khud lo. Labor alag. Paise bachao.
