Hyundai Elantra Looks Like a Spaceship But How Much to Fix When It Breaks

Gaari dekhi hai? Looks like a spaceship. Seriously. Sharp lines. Futuristic shape. Headlights angry. Side mein folds. Rear mein lines. You park it next to a Corolla, Corolla looks like a taxi from 1990s.

But bhai. Looks are one thing. Maintenance is another.

I pick up passengers. Some drive Elantra. I ask them. They tell me stories. Some good. Some bad. Some expensive.

So here it is. Hyundai Elantra. What breaks. How much to fix. And whether you should buy one.

The Good. Why People Buy Elantra.

First. Looks. Bhai, kya dikhti hai. On road, you turn heads. Girls look. Guys stare. Passengers ask: “Bhai, konsi gari hai?”

Second. Features. Air-conditioned seats. Heated seats. Panoramic sunroof (in some models). Cruise control. Touchscreen. Digital cluster. Rear cameras. Parking sensors. Wireless charging. Corolla mein? Basic. Elantra mein spaceship.

Third. Handling. Steering is responsive. Suspension is tuned for comfort. Not too hard. Not too soft. One passenger said: “Bhai, motorway par 160 pe gaari stable hai. Corolla 140 pe hilne lagti hai.”

Fourth. Fuel average. Hybrid variant gives 20+ km/l in city . One owner reported 20 km/l . Non-hybrid? 12-14 km/l. Still decent.

But bhai. Yeh sab acha hai. Jab tak gaari theek hai. Jab break hoti hai, tab asli maza aata hai. Paisa nikalte dekhna.

The Bad. What Breaks and How Much.

Search kiya. Passengers se poocha. Ye hai real problems.

AC Compressor. Bhai, yeh masla hai.

Elantra ka AC compressor. Especially 2021-2023 models. Pakistan ki garmi mein? Fail ho jata hai .

One passenger told me: “Mohsin bhai, AC thanda nahi kar raha tha. Clicking sound aa raha tha. Mechanic ne bola compressor.”

Symptoms: clicking noise from under hood. AC blows warm. Compressor doesn’t engage .

Price to fix? AC compressor replacement. 60,000-100,000 rupees .

Yes. One lakh. For AC. In Corolla, AC compressor 25,000-35,000. Elantra mein double or triple.

Why? Because compressor is imported. Parts locally not available. And labor bhi zyada. Hyundai dealership se karao toh aur zyada.

One passenger said: “Bhai, main nay AC theek karwaya. 85,000. 2 hafte lage. Part Saudi se mangwana para.”

So. AC problem. Expensive.

DRL Issues. Daytime Running Lights.

Elantra ki headlights mein DRL strip hoti hai. Looks cool. But bhai, yeh DRL fail ho jati hai .

One passenger. His car was out of warranty. DRL failed. New headlight assembly? 1 lakh+. He didn’t want to spend.

Luckily, he found a repair shop in Rawalpindi. Shahid Autos Headlight Repairing. They fixed the DRL without replacing whole headlight . He didn’t tell me exact price. But cheaper than new assembly.

So. DRL can fail. New headlight expensive. But repair possible.

Suspension. Hard or Soft?

Passengers say different things. Some say suspension is comfortable. Some say hard.

One passenger said: “Bhai, Elantra mein suspension Corolla se thori stiff hai. But not as hard as City.”

Another passenger said: “Potholes pe thud aati hai. Lekin manageable.”

Search results show. Suspension strut replacement in US costs $876-$925 . That’s almost 2.5 lakh rupees. In Pakistan? Maybe less. But still expensive.

So. Suspension not a major issue. But if it breaks, prepare wallet.

Bumper Misalignment. Small Accidents.

Elantra ka bumper. Plastic clips se attach hai. Minor accident mein bhi bumper misalign ho jata hai .

One passenger. He was stuck in Lahore traffic. Small hit from behind. Bumper shifted. Gap dikh raha tha between bumper and body.

He said: “Bhai, gaari nay nayi lagti hai lekin bumper side se khuli hui hai.”

Fix? Re-clipping. Fastener replacement. Body shop 2,000-5,000 mein theek kar deta hai . Not expensive. But annoying.

EV Mode Issues (Hybrid Model).

Hybrid Elantra. EV mode mein jaati hai. Normally. But one owner reported issue .

He said: “Car fails to switch to EV mode even when battery is adequately charged. Engine remains engaged. Only switches to EV mode when car is nearly at complete stop.”

He reported to Hyundai Nishat. No helpful response .

So. Hybrid model has its own problems. Not widespread. But exists.

Rear Speakers Missing? (Base Model).

Elantra base variant (GL) mein rear speakers nahi hain . Only front speakers. Doors mein rear speakers ke cutouts hain lekin speakers empty .

One passenger said: “Bhai, gaari 5 million ki hai. Peeche speakers nahi hain. Kya baat hai.”

So. If sound quality matters, check variant. Or aftermarket speakers lagao. 10,000-20,000.

Parts Availability. Not like Toyota/Honda.

Elantra parts. Available hain. But not everywhere. Toyota Corolla ka part har gali mein milta hai. Elantra ka? Dealership pe jao. Online order karo. Wait karo.

One passenger said: “Bhai, headlight chahiye thi. 2 hafte lage. Corolla ki headlight same day mil jati.”

So. Parts are available. But takes time. And price zyada.


Sales Numbers. Why Elantra is Rare.

Bhai. Elantra Pakistan mein zyada nahi biki.

Search result says: Since launch in March 2021, total 11,413 Elantra sold . 4 saal mein sirf 11,000 gaariyan.

Compare to Corolla? One month mein 2,000-3,000 bechti hai. Civic? Similar. Elantra 4 saal mein 11,000.

Why? Price. Competition. Reliability concerns.

One forum user said: “Elantra already has proven to be a commercial failure in Pakistan and significantly trails its competitors despite being the superior product” .

Another said: “Elantra and Civic are facing slower sales due to increased competition and reliability issues in long term while the now dated Corolla still leads the C segment category due to its superior reliability and solid build quality” .

So. Elantra is rare. Resale value? Lower than Corolla. Higher than Chinese. Middle.


Price. Kitni Hai.

Elantra price Pakistan mein. 2021 mein 5 million thi used . 2026 mein? New model around 7-9 million. Used depends on year and condition.

Factors affecting price: Strong dollar. Government taxes. Shipping costs. Raw material prices .

So Elantra is expensive. Not Corolla expensive. But not cheap.

One passenger said: “Bhai, main nay Elantra li 6.5 million mein. 2 saal baad bechna chahta hoon. 5 million se zyada nahi mil rahe.”

So. Depreciation zyada hai.


Maintenance Costs. Real Numbers.

Dealer service. 7,000 km pe. 15,000 rupees .

Oil change. 5,000-7,000.

Brake pads. 10,000-15,000.

AC compressor. 60,000-100,000 (if fails) .

Suspension overhaul. Not cheap.

One passenger said: “Bhai, maintenance Corolla se 20-30% zyada hai. Lekin looks aur features uss hisaab se.”

So. Elantra is more expensive to maintain than Corolla. Less than Civic. About same as Sonata.

What Passengers Say.

Passenger 1. Elantra GLS owner. 2022 model.

“Bhai, gaari achi hai. Smooth hai. Features hain. AC abhi tak theek hai. 2 saal ho gaye. Service dealer se karwata hoon. 15,000 per 7,000 km. Thora mehnga hai lekin theek hai.”

Passenger 2. Elantra Hybrid owner. 2024 model.

“Bhai, average 20-22 hai. AC compressor ka suna hai. Abhi tak nahi aya. Dua karo. Parts ka masla hai. Kuch dealers pe stock nahi hota.”

Passenger 3. Former Elantra owner. Sold after 1.5 years.

“Bhai, gaari bech di. AC compressor fail ho gaya. 85,000 lag gaye. Phir suspension mein noise aya. Thak gaya. Corolla le li. Boring hai lekin sukoon hai.”

Passenger 4. Women driver. Elantra fan.

“Beenish. She loves Elantra. She changes cars every 5-6 months. But kept Elantra for 1.5 years. That says something .”

So. Mixed reviews. Some love. Some hate. Some cry.


The Bottom Line (Driver’s Honest Take).

Bhai.

Elantra is a beautiful car. Looks like a spaceship. Features like a premium car. Drives well.

But.

It is not for everyone.

You buy Elantra if:

  • You have money for maintenance (20-30% more than Corolla)
  • You can afford AC compressor replacement (60,000-1 lakh)
  • You are okay with parts taking time
  • You care about looks and features over reliability
  • You will not keep car more than 3-4 years

You avoid Elantra if:

  • You want trouble-free ownership
  • You drive in rural areas with no dealership
  • You are on tight budget
  • You plan to keep car 5+ years
  • You want high resale value

My advice. If you are buying new or used, set aside 1-2 lakh for “emergency fund.” AC compressor kharab ho gaya? You have money. Bumper misalignment? Small cost. Suspension? Medium.

And always. Always. Get warranty. Hyundai gives 5 years or 100,000 km on new cars. AC compressor under warranty? Covered. Out of warranty? Your problem.

One passenger said: “Bhai, Elantra le li. Ab dua karta hoon kuch na tootay. AC ka compressor har waqt tension deta hai.”

So.

Elantra is not for the faint-hearted. It is for people who want to drive something different. Something beautiful. Something that turns heads.

But bhai, head turn karne ke liye wallet bhi thick hona chahiye.

Bookmark this page. Jab Elantra dekhne jao, yaad rakhna. AC compressor check karna. DRL check karna. Bumper alignment check karna. Parts availability poochna.

Aur mechanic ko zaroor le kar jana. Wo spaceship dekh kar confuse ho jayega. Lekin engine same hai. Suspension same hai. Check kar lega.
